Alpha Painting Holiday: Dartmoor

Dartmoor National Park: Sunday 31st of May - Thursday 4th of June at Moorland Hotel, Haytor

Paint with Finn Campbell-Notman in Oils in Dartmoor National Park, where you will paint cascading rivers with rocks, panoramic moorland views and beautiful moorland villages.

There are many stunning locations on Dartmoor including Dartmeet, Postbridge, Bellever & Haytor plus the villages of Widecombe-in-the-Moor, North Bovey & Holne.

This landscape painting holiday will lead the guests through the key practical and theoretic elements of landscape painting with a particular focus on how each individuals life experience relates to composing meaningful landscape painting. You will have group tuition, demonstrations as well as one-to-one support throughout the course.The course will include an in depth look at the key components of composition; both how and why we choose the elements that underpin what is an often overlooked aspect of successful paintings whether the student's preference is for loose and painterly or realistic rendering or for bright colourful or monochromatic work.

As a tutor Finn's approach is to always be attentive to the unique attributes of each individual and to draw these out by showing that by the development of the practical methods with which we make paintings the individual's preference shines through in a painting. He demonstrates the distinction between 'making paintings' and 'taking pictures', how a good landscape painting is as much a reflection of our internal vision of the landscape as of what we see before us.

One to One Tutoring and Mentoring

Recently I was asked by Storyvault Films who produce both Portrait and Landscape Artist of the Year to present two Artist of the Year Masterclasses and these were broadcast on Sky Arts in early December.

I will now be offering bespoke, one to one sessions tailored to your level, experience and requirements.

The sessions can be in person at my studio, in person at your studio and online depending on your location. Session can be 1 or 2 hours in duration or indeed longer.

Woolland House Group and Residential

Plans are afoot for both local group classes and most excitingly for a residential and catered course in landscape painting here at Woolland House in Dorset.

I will be formulating these over the next month or so with the course here taking place in the Spring and Summer of 2026.
